As an Associate Partner in L2 Consulting, Dr. Lawrence Mahan comes with an established track record as a successful research scientist and business professional in advanced biomedical technologies. His research spans 25 years including 12 years at the National Institutes of Health as a principal investigator. He has authored more than 100 published articles and abstracts and holds four US patents. His research has encompassed cellular and molecular biology, pharmacology, functional genomics, proteomics, neuroscience, immunology and biochemistry with additional experience in biomedical device engineering principals, bioinformatics and IT architectural management. With regard to CMC, he has practical experience in the de novo creation of both bacterial and mammalian expression vector systems, scaled process production requirements under GLP conditions and strong familiarity with cGMP operations. This experience comes from significant knowledge of peptide/protein biochemistry and the biochemical/biophysical analytics of peptide/protein identification as it relates to the downstream processing and purification. He leverages a network of resources in the biomanufacturing community both in the U.S. and abroad.
Dr. Mahan’s business experience encompasses more than 15 years of business development oversight and strategic partnering/alliance efforts in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields for government, academia and industry. He has held positions of CSO and VP Business development for Madeleine Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (U.S.) and TherExcell, Inc., and OB Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Canada) respectively. In his capacities as Senior Strategy Advisor for the Governor’s office of the State of Maryland and later Director of Innovation and Business Development at Children’s National Medical Center, he has guided entrepreneurs and start-up companies in drug discovery and device development, platform technology development, scientific and financial diligence, technology evaluation, intellectual property management, and operational logistics. Dr. Mahan received his doctorate in Physiology and Pharmacology from the University of California, San Diego. He has been an invited speaker globally on his scientific research and industry development in the biosciences.
